There's something extra lovely about finding a maker close to home. Busy Bee Designs is one of our newest, a Whanganui business started by Dominique, a primary school teacher and mum. Her mini plaster painting kits recently arrived in both our stores.

Meet Dominique

Dominique started Busy Bee Designs because she wanted a fun, screen-free craft for her own girls.

As a primary school teacher, she knows how much children get from art and creative play. The concentration, the problem solving, and the joy of holding up something they made all by themselves. As a mum, she knows what actually works at home on an ordinary afternoon.

Each kit is put together with that same care. We love being able to support a young mum's sideline business, and when our goals line up this well (hands-on, screen-free play for little ones), it feels like a natural fit.

What's in the kit

Every Busy Bee Designs mini plaster painting kit has:

  • a set of hand-poured plaster figurines
  • a carefully chosen paint palette
  • paint brushes
  • and of course a little glitter for extra sparkle

It's ready to paint straight from the box, so there's nothing else to hunt down before they can get started.

Why we love them

Kids paint and decorate their figurines in their very own design, so no two finished pieces turn out the same. It's hands-on, screen-free and creative, which makes it a good one for rainy afternoons and school holidays.

There's a selection of themes to choose from, so you can find your child's favourite. Suitable for ages 3+.

They make a lovely gift for the creative kid in your life, whether it's a birthday or Christmas. Fair warning though, there is glitter and paint.

Find them in store

Busy Bee Designs kits are currently available in store only, and you'll find them in both our stores, on George Street in Palmy and Tennyson Street in Napier. Pop in and have a look at the themes with your little one, and we'll gift wrap your kit for free.
